Managed backup & recovery

Know your data will come back, not just that it is being backed up.

A backup job that completes overnight tells you nothing about how long a real restore takes, or how much work you would lose along the way. Kritical operates managed backup as an ongoing service, scoped around two plain numbers — how much data you can afford to lose, and how long you can afford to be without it.

What the backup platforms promise, in plain words.

A backup arrangement needs evidence that the required systems and data can be recovered within the agreed objectives. Veeam supports Microsoft 365, on-premises systems, cloud workloads and identity, with options for protected backup data and automated recovery checks. For a simpler small-business footprint, Kritical also offers NinjaOne's cloud backup for straightforward device and file protection. We select the proposed platform from the systems, data and recovery requirements in scope.

Two numbers that matter more than any feature list.

  1. Recovery point: how much you can afford to lose

If backups run nightly and a failure happens at 4pm, you lose a day's work. We agree how much loss is tolerable before choosing a backup frequency, not after.

  2. Recovery time: how long you can afford to be down

Restoring one file is fast. Restoring a server, an application or a whole site is not. We agree a realistic recovery time for each workload before an incident forces the conversation.

What is priced today, and what is quoted.

Current managed cloud-backup product pricing stays in the Shop. Veeam-based backup for servers, applications and more demanding recovery targets depends on the workloads, storage and recovery time involved, so the service is quoted against the specific environment.

Start with what needs to be recoverable.

  1. Individuals & home offices

Individuals & home offices need a simple protection and recovery path for the information they rely on.

  2. Small & medium business

Small & medium business needs defined coverage, monitoring, restore authority and an escalation path.

  3. Enterprise & complex environments

Enterprise & complex environments need workload dependencies, recovery order and operating ownership designed together.

Backup infrastructure (modern racks, not retro tape)

Make restoration part of the service, not an assumption.

Agree who can authorise a restore, which recovery paths are included and how the result is checked. Scheduled tests can cover representative files, applications or workloads, so recovery point and recovery time are evidenced against your actual data.

Renewing an existing backup contract? Compare it like-for-like.

If you already run a backup product or managed service and a renewal is coming up, Kritical quotes a like-for-like replacement against your actual incumbent — the same data, the same recovery targets, the same term. Not a discounted guess built to win on price. If your current arrangement is already fair for the coverage it gives you, we say so instead. Send us your current renewal notice and we will quote against it.

What sets this proposal apart.

Continuity planned around your account

We aim to provide continuity through a consistent lead or delivery group where the agreed scope and service model support it. Your proposal sets out the contact model, cover and handover arrangements that apply.

A written quote

We review the supplied information, then confirm the scope, written price and expected timing.

We price the recovery, not just the storage

A storage bill is not a recovery plan. We scope and price the monitoring, testing and restore work itself.

Your data stays yours, in writing

Account ownership, documentation and export are agreed before the service starts to reduce avoidable recovery and transition risk.

What happens after you send us the workloads.

  1. First call

Map the data and systems to protect, today's backup setup, and the order services need to recover after a failure.

  2. The agreed first phase

Onboarding finds gaps before the service starts and shows onboarding, remediation, storage and recovery costs separately, in writing.

Read the platform's own explanation of data protection.

Use the vendor documentation to understand the underlying platform, then let your actual recovery targets decide the configuration.

Questions before you enquire

Is managed backup the same as disaster recovery?

No. Managed backup operates the protection activities in the agreed scope. Disaster recovery addresses how complete services and business processes are restored across their dependencies. The two can be designed together, but the responsibilities and tests are stated separately.

Can you take over our existing backup environment?

Often, yes. We first assess the workloads, configuration, licences, storage, access and recent job or restore results. You then receive a clear view of what can be onboarded, what needs fixing and which responsibilities remain with your team or another provider.

Are restore tests included?

Only where the service schedule says so. The scope identifies the test frequency, representative recovery scenarios, customer validation and any limits on the environment or data used.

Why is NinjaOne priced but Veeam is not?

NinjaOne's SaaS backup is a single standard tier at a fixed per-user price. Veeam-based backup depends on the workloads, storage volume and recovery targets involved, so it is quoted once we know what has to come back.

Does the service include backup software and storage?

We show whether software, hosted capacity or storage consumption is included or quoted separately. Product availability, data location, retention, support and pricing are confirmed for the selected arrangement.

What happens if we outgrow the NinjaOne tier?

We assess the workloads that no longer fit a straightforward device-backup product and quote the Veeam-based arrangement for the parts that need it, without forcing a full replacement of what already works.
